HCPC joins lay advocacy service POhWER
The HCPC is joining other regulators in offering independent lay advocacy support.
As part of our Fitness to Practise (FTP) Improvement Programme to consistently enhance the communication, engagement and support we provide to people who are part of our FTP processes, we’re happy to announce that we’ve partnered with the cross regulatory independent lay advocacy service POhWER.
What is POhWER?
POhWER are the country’s largest provider of high-quality, responsive and person-centred lay advocacy service for people with mental health needs, learning disabilities or those who due to life events require support to be involved with a regulatory case in relation to a complaint about a health or social care professional.
Laura Coffey, Head of Fitness to Practise, said:
“I’m delighted that we are working with POhWER to provide lay advocacy support for complainants and witnesses who may need additional support to access and engage effectively with the FTP process.
“The advocacy service provides an additional means by which we ensure that the voices of patients, service users and other complainants are effectively heard during the FTP process. The delivery of the service is a key part of our FTP Improvement Programme and our work to become a more compassionate regulator.”
POhWER have extensive experience in supporting people through complex complaints processes and an excellent understanding of the role of the health and social care regulators. Their lay advocates support people in making sure their voices are heard and provide information to help them make informed choices and decisions.
